Where is Rocky Creek State Scenic Viewpoint?

The state park is located just two miles south of Depoe Bay, along HWY 101. It covers 59 acres between Rocky Creek and Whale Cove, just a five-minute walk from Whale Cove Inn. Extending south along the Otter Crest Loop, the viewpoint also includes the historic Rocky Creek Bridge.

Rocky Creek Bridge

Rocky Creek Bridge, also known as the Ben Jones Bridge, was built in 1927 and named after Ben Jones, a man who many attributes as the “father of the Roosevelt Highway” and who was one of the primary forces behind creating Highway 101. There is a small turnout at the bridge where visitors can get out and enjoy the coastal views and watch as the water pounds the rocks beneath the historic bridge. It’s truly a picture-perfect scene.

See wildlife

The dramatic coastline that makes up this state park isn’t the only thing that draws in visitors from all over. Its abundance of wildlife is something to see as well. Rocky Creek viewpoint is a great place to spot birds, sea lions, and harbor seals that can be found nestled amongst the off-shore rocks.

Whale watching

But the park’s biggest draw is the migrating gray whales that are often seen from its viewpoint. Here you can gain front row seats to some of the best whale-watching spots along the Oregon Coast. Rocky Creek State Scenic Viewpoint is an official Whale Spoken Here site for watching migrating gray whales.

Winter storms

Every year raging winds and turbulent rains draw new and returning nature-loving visitors to the Oregon Coast.
