Otter Rock
The Devil’s Punch Bowl State Natural Area is located right in Otter Rock and provides beginners terrific opportunities to surf. The surf can reach up to two to four feet, making it one of the best spots in North America to learn. The waters can be chilly throughout the year, so make sure to wear a proper wetsuit!
Pacific City
Pacific City is about a 45-minute drive north of Depoe Bay. There, you can take your board for some bigger surfing on the beach. The waves can swell up to over 12 feet tall and seasoned surfers typically frequent this spot. Cape Kiwanda State Natural Area is also in Pacific City and has some great waves right off the south shore.
Gleneden Beach
Surrounded by soft sand and pine forests, Gleneden Beach is a surfer’s paradise no matter what skill level. The surf ranges in size throughout the day and you’ll typically see expert surfers taking on the waves earlier in the morning. There are no access fees to enter this state recreation site, allowing you a full day to hang ten.
Fogarty Creek State Recreation Site
If you’re cruising along Highway 101, you have a great spot to surf right off the road! Fogarty Creek has a smaller beach compared to other spots near Depoe Bay, but still hosts great waves to surf. This area offers scenic surf, including views of the cliffs, tide pools, and spruce trees.
