Oregon Coast dishes for your Thanksgiving

Image that says

Bring some coastal flavors to the table this year with these fun and fresh Oregon Coast dishes for Thanksgiving. Whether you’re looking for a new appetizer, side dish, or perhaps a twist on a Thanksgiving classic, you can’t go wrong adding these to the menu for the upcoming holiday!

Crab-stuffed mushrooms

These crab-stuffed mushrooms are a perfect appetizer for your friends and family! Fresh seafood always comes to mind when thinking of the coast but did you know that mushrooms hold a special place in Oregonian’s hearts? In fact, Yachats has been holding the Annual Yachats Village Mushroom Fest in October for the past 18 years!

Brie and cranberry-stuffed mushroom bites

Looking for a sweet appetizer instead of savory? Stick with the mushroom theme and try these brie and cranberry-stuffed mushroom bites!

Rye crispbread crackers with pepper-dill crème fraiche and smoked salmon

Be sure to snag a few of these salmon-based appetizers before they disappear off the table! These are crispy, creamy, and savory all in one bite yet not too filling to ruin your appetite for the main meal.

Dungeness crab dip

Thanks to TravelOregon’s Grant McOmie, we’ve got a few Dungeness crab recipes that we’re excited to try but for the holiday, we might focus on the first recipe: The Dungeness crab dip! It’s already using low-fat ingredients so we won’t feel too guilty if we eat the whole thing!

Clam chowder

Normally we just head over to Gracie’s Sea Hag for delicious clam chowder but for Thanksgiving, we might try this award-winning Newport clam chowder recipe as a first course dish!

James Beard’s au gratin potatoes

Oregon is home to many amazing chefs and James Beard is a notable one among them. His au gratin recipe is the perfect potato dish for your Thanksgiving dinner as it comes from his “American Cookery” cookbook!

Oyster dressing

Move over, Stove Top Stuffing, you’re being replaced with this classic oyster dressing recipe! It still incorporates many ingredients found in traditional stuffing like bread, celery, and onion, but with a touch of seafood.

Cranberry sauce with pinot noir

Enhance your cranberry sauce with some delicious Oregon pinot noir! The New York Times listed this recipe as the one that evokes the spirit of Oregon and with its abundance of spices and earthy aromas, you’ll feel like you’re dining along the Pacific Northwest when you take your first bite.

We highly recommend a bottle or two of Oregon wine to go with your turkey dinner, but that’s just our preference.

After all that work in the kitchen, we think you should take a little break and enjoy a stay at Whale Cove Inn, perhaps using our three-night winter promotion, and make a reservation at Restaurant Beck and let the talented staff work their magic in their kitchen!
