Depoe Bay features a large sea wall that spans the length of the downtown, providing visitors views of the ocean as they shop and dine. Depoe Bay is the only town along the Oregon Coast with this feature.

Before it was expanded, the entrance to the harbor was even smaller at just 30 feet wide! And because of its once smaller entrance, at low tides, fishing boats at the docks would tip over on their sides, resting in a few inches of mud and water.

The original Depoe Bay bridge that spans the harbor was only 18 feet wide. Later in 1940, the bridge was widened by adding another similar concrete bridge directly adjacent to the original.

The Depoe Bay Bridge was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.

The Depoe Bay harbor is the recipient of Oregon’s Clean Marina Program award. The award recognizes those who adopt best practices to improve water quality and promote a cleaner marine environment for the Oregon Coast.

The harbor played out in one of the scenes in the movie, “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.” With this claim to fame, Depoe Bay was recently added to the Oregon Film Trail.
