While Oregon’s coastline is more known for its rugged topography and less for its wide sandy beaches, there are a few places along the coast that make for a great day at the beach. Located twelve miles north of Depoe Bay are the beaches of Lincoln City. With over seven miles of sandy shoreline, nearby Lincoln City is an ideal option for a day trip to the beach.
Go tidepooling
Found between the unpredictable Pacific Ocean and the rugged rocky shores of the Oregon Coast, lie a bed of abundant sea life that are visible in what is known as tide pools. These pools offer a calm and shallow place for viewing the sea creatures that make their home in these shallow waters. During low tide, waders will often find starfish, crabs, urchin, and anemone.
Lincoln City is home to several tide pools worth exploring when at the beach. Tidepool locations include Roads End State Park, 15th Street, and 35th Street (towards Spanish Head).
The changing tide and unpredictable weather make it vital to plan ahead. If you plan to visit the tide pools please use the local tide predictions for best times to go.
Beachcombing
There’s even more exploration above the surface where sea treasures make their way on to shore after a big storm. Active storms bring in treasures such as driftwood, shells, agates, and various sea creatures. And if you are lucky you might come across a colorful glass float from Lincoln City’s annual event – Finders Keepers.
Search for glass floats
Every year Lincoln City hosts their highly anticipated event – Finders Keepers. In the month of October, Float Fairies span the seven miles of beaches and hide over 3,000 colorful handcrafted glass floats. The search is on for the rest of the year as visitors scour the sandy beaches in hopes of finding a beautiful treasure.

- Floats can be found above the high tide and below the beach embarkment
